And the Western parody of FE is exactly like that. When it's inaccurate beyond recognition, it's objectively awful. It doesn't matter if it has a flawless English writing or meme-infested garbage-tier writing. The term "localization" doesn't mean you can write random shit with no rhyme or reason. At multiple points it's completely unrelated to the original text. It's a very concrete proof that the official version is inaccurate as fuck. There are numerous examples here, where people put together original JP lines, official TL and Fan-TL. Pabloc localization and translation can be evaluated objectively - based on how well it conveys the original content. Don't confuse it with quality though - those are two completely unrelated things. Just like you can like extremely crudely written fanfics. It's approximately 283,4% less cringeworthy. And I'd say that with all its flaws, it's still has better overall writing quality than the official version. So, even though it's not written very well and could use some solid editing, in this aspect it's leagues better than the official version. thing.įan-TL, while it has quite a few mistranslations here and there, does an infinitely better job at conveying the original content. If you don't believe me, you can ask someone else who knows JP to evaluate the accuracy of the official. (See: The 200th episode of South Park.) There is no grey area when it comes to localization and translation can be evaluated objectively - based on how well it conveys the original content. There are an infinite number of ways it can be useful (removing racist crap, changing something with awful implications, ect.) and it can be awful. I don't remember book burning being popular in the 21th century.ĭidn't you say that common sense isn't an argument?Ĭensorship in fiction is a grey area. That changing motivations and character personalities shits on the original writers.Īnd that well-paid professional writers surely have a higher probability of making a greater piece of fiction than a bunch of amateur localizers that have been always controversial when it came to their changes.Īctually, that is false, you have to prove the statement that censorship in fiction is a grey area. I don't need to show them worse to you, everyone else understands that a color book narrative does not fit anyone that has went over a certain age. Immahnoob don't understand why you like to be humiliated continuously and endlessly by me, but whatever. You force on us all your ultra violtet shit There are also those who don't like the fact that every Japanese game is now basically an interactive anime. One can love referential humor and find things like Deadpool to have too many references. No, people call Persona and FE games weeb shit because everyone has a certain threshold for the amount of "weebness" that they can handle regarding video games. sort of shooting themselves in their own foot. So it was clearly a marketing move to try to "westernize" the game - but by doing that they're isolating their "real" fanbase, the otaku type who normally buy these games in the first place. There's a lot of anime fans who are "in the closet" about their fandom and afraid of being "teased" etc. And people are afraid to like (and therefore afraid to buy) anything which might be criticized by their peers. JRPG are no longer "cool" like they were back in the 90s. People will follow trends in anything, games are no exception. Which is pretty mind blowing given that we're on an anime forum full of otaku lol. I even see some users on anime forums (like this one) who call games like Persona and Fire Emblem "Weeb Shit" and criticize it. I agree, I think gamers (and mass media right now) are on a sorta "Otaku Witch Hunt" in a sense.
